Copy clients from one Practice CS database to another
There may be situations where you need to copy clients from one Practice CS database to another. An example might be that a partner is forming their own new firm and wants to copy the information about their clients into their database.
Follow these steps to copy clients from one Practice CS database to another Practice CS database.
Export the client data from the main database
- SelectFile,Export, thenClients.
- InExport Clients to:, selectOtherand enter the path and name of the file where you want the client data to be written. The file will be given an .xml extension.noteExample:Clients.xml.
- Enter a filter as needed to reduce the client list to those you want to export.noteExample:Partner ID / is / .
- Select the checkbox in front of each client you want to export.noteTo quickly select all clients on the screen, right-click anywhere in the grid and selectSelect All.
- SelectExport Selected.
Practice CS will create a file with the name and location you specified in the Export Clients screen.
Import the client data into the new database
- Turn on integration with other solutions in the new database:
- SelectSetup,Firm, then thePreferencestab.
- CheckIntegrate this Firm with other solutions.
- SelectEnter.
- Copy the .xml file you created to X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data\Data\Integration\SimpleClient where X is the drive letter of the drive in which the Practice CS Data folder resides.noteThe path to the Practice CS Data folder might be different depending on the path selected when Practice CS was installed.
- In Practice CS, go toSetupthenClients. The clients you exported should show in the list of clients. If the clients aren't in theSetupthenClientsscreen, close Practice CS and restart.

- If you want to view the data before it's imported into the new Practice CS database, you can open the .xml file in Microsoft Excel.
- The data for each client includes all demographic data plus the data from the Primary contact.
