Rename a database

Practice CS doesn’t have a command that lets you to change the name of an existing database. To change the name of a database, you'll need to do the following:
  1. Have all users close Practice CS.
    note
    The following procedure should be performed at the server on which your database resides.
  2. Open Practice CS on the server and sign in to the database you want to rename.
  3. Go to
    File
     then
    Backup
    . Make note of the path and file name shown in
    Backup file
    .
  4. Select
    OK
    .
  5. Go to
    File
     then
    Delete Firm
    .
  6. Verify the
    Firm name
     you're deleting.
  7. Select
    OK
    .
    note
    • Practice CS will make another backup of your current database before deleting it.
    • When the deletion is complete, your screen will be blank except for a
      File
       and
      Help
       menu.
  8. Go to
    File
     then
    Open Firm
    .
  9. Sign in to the Sample database.
  10. Go to
    File
     then
    Restore
    .
  11. In
    Backup file\directory:
     select the ellipse at the end of the line.
  12. Go to the path and file you noted in step 3.
  13. Enter the new name for the database in
    New Firm Name
    .
  14. Select the database you backed up in step 3.
  15. Select
    OK
    .
You should now be back in your original database that now has the name you provided in step 11.
