Internal: Error "Unable to Save" when saving a custom filter

For internal use only.
When saving a custom filter in Practice CS, you may receive an
Unable to Save
error. If that happens, select
Cancel
, then
Done
to close the
Filter
screen.
note
Despite the error, the filter may have actually been saved.

Cause

The
Unable to Save
error is caused by existing filters that use the
is in the list
method and contain over 1,000 items. In addition, the problematic filter might not be on the current screen where you're getting the error.
For example, you may be in
Setup
,
Clients
and adding a client filter, but the filter that's the cause is under
Setup
,
Staff
.

Resolution

To resolve the error, delete the filter with over 1,000 items in the list.
  1. Select
    Setup
    .
  2. Right-click the
    Filter
    field and select
    Add Client Filter
    .
  3. Select the filter that's causing the issue, then select
    Delete
    .
  4. Select
    Yes
    , then
    Done
    .
If the firm needs the filter, refer to the steps under
Alternative way to filter over 1000 items
.

Query to find filters

The problem is you don't know what filters are causing the error. There is a query available to identify the filters. Refer to the customer consultant for more information.

Alternative way to filter over 1,000 items

If the firm needs filters to select more than 1,000 items using the
is in the list
method, then create a custom field as an alternate approach.
Create a custom field
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Custom Fields
and select the same type of field as the problematic filter.
  2. Select
    Add
to create a new custom field.
  3. Add the custom field to the item (client, staff, etc.).
  4. If the
    Edit multiple
option is available (this will depend on what it is you need to add the custom field to), use that to assign the custom field.
  5. If the
    Edit multiple
option isn't available, the firm will need to assign the custom field to the items one at a time.
    note
This may not be possible, since there will probably be a huge number of items. If the custom field can't be reasonably added one at a time, the firm will need to continue using the problematic filter and delete it when they are finished using it.
  6. Use the custom field to filter a list. The custom field you created will now be available in the
    Filter
    dropdown.
  7. Delete the filter causing the issue.
