Practice CS SQL error when restoring a backup

If you try to restore a Practice CS database backup that was created with a newer version of SQL than the one currently installed, you will receive SQL errors. Upgrade your SQL instance to resolve them.
When you try to restore a backup created with a newer version of SQL, Practice CS displays the following errors:
  • There is a problem accessing the SQL server.
  • If you select
    No
    , Practice CS displays:
The media family on device is incorrectly formed.
  • If you select
    OK
, Practice CS returns you to the
    Restore
    window.
You can identify this issue before the errors appear. When you go to the backup file in the
Restore
window, check the
Date
field. If it shows
01/01/0001
, the backup was likely created with a newer version of SQL than the one currently installed, and you will most likely receive these errors when you attempt to restore.
To resolve this issue, upgrade your SQL instance to the same version that was used to create the backup. If you don’t know which version created the backup, upgrade to the most current version of SQL Server.
