Data sharing isn't working in UltraTax CS or Practice CS

If data sharing is not working, follow these steps to troubleshoot common issues such as missing prompts to accept changes, or amounts and fields not sharing or updating.
Data sharing automatically accepts changes made to clients that share an EIN or SSN. Common signs that data sharing is not working include:
  • Prompts to accept, decline, or postpone changes don’t appear.
  • Certain amounts or fields are not sharing or updating.
If you experience problems with data sharing, follow these steps:
  1. Verify the SSNs and EINs for each client involved.
  2. In UltraTax CS, print preview each client's return.

    Print preview creates the files required for data sharing.
  3. If you are sharing K-1 information, verify that the amount you want to share is not listed in the UltraTax CS Federal K-1 Financial Data Not Shared.
  4. If you are sharing financial information from Write-Up CS, print the W-2 and/or 1099-R by going to
    Utilities
    W2 Form Processing or Utilities
    1099 Form Processing
    .

    Print preview doesn't create data-sharing files in Write-Up Cs. This process may take a long time depending on the number of clients you have. We recommend running this process after business hours.
  5. For each affected client, go to
    File
    Client Properties
    Advanced Properties
    and verify that the following options are cleared:
    • Exempt this client from all Data Sharing functionality
    • Deny others Data Sharing access to this client
  6. o to
    Help
    Repair
    , select the client from the list, and select
    Rebuild Data Sharing
    following the client's group of buttons.

    Don’t select
    Rebuild Data Sharing
    under
    All Clients
    . After rebuilding data sharing, print preview each client's return.
  7. Go to
    Setup
    Office Configuration
    Data Sharing
    tab and verify that
    Allow use of the data sharing feature
    is marked. If data sharing was turned off, wait until after business hours, then go to
    Help
    Repair
    and select
    Rebuild Data Sharing
    under All Clients.

    In UltraTax CS 2012 and earlier, the
    Allow use of the data sharing feature
    checkbox is located under
    Setup
    System Configuration
    Data Sharing
    .
  8. Go to
    Setup
    User Preferences
    Misc
    tab and verify that
    Display the Data Sharing dialog when a client is opened
    option is marked.
  9. Clear the local Windows temp directory.
  10. Register the program files by going to
    Start
    Run
    and entering the following commands for your product:
    Practice CS (where YY represents the year of Practice CS):
    regsvr32 X:\Program Files (X86)\Creative Solutions\Practice CS\20YY.2\Practice CS\wcis_p.dll
    UltraTax CS (where YY represents the year of UltraTax CS):
    regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis.dll
    regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis_k.dll
    regsvr32 X:\WINCSI\UTYY\wcis_s.dll
  11. To recreate the K-1 data sharing files, make a change to the income amount, then print preview the return. Change the income back to the correct amount and print preview the return again.
