Disable Microsoft Outlook interface
If your firm isn't using Microsoft Outlook, you might get various error messages when using Practice CS. To resolve errors associated with Practice CS and Outlook Integration, you can disable the Microsoft Outlook interface in Practice CS.
To disable Outlook integration with Practice CS in Virtual Office/SaaS, contact Support at (800) 968-0600. The change may take 24-48 business hours. Outlook can only be disabled firm-wide for Virtual Office/SaaS versions of Practice CS.
For non-Virtual Office/SaaS installations of Practice CS, follow these steps.

Firm-wide
To disable Outlook on a network level (all workstations), make the following changes:
- In Windows Explorer, go to X:\WinCSI\Practice CS (X represents the drive letter for the server where the Practice CS Shared files are installed).
- Right-click on the Networkinstallation.ini file and select open with... \Notepad.
- In the notepad file, add a new line under the [appSettings] section with this information:outlookdisable=true
- SelectFilethenSave.
- Close Notepad.
- Restart Practice CS.noteRemoveTXTfrom the end of the document name so that the file extension isINI, and the document type isConfiguration Settings.
Workstation-specific
To disable Outlook integration on a workstation level, make the following changes:
- Close Practice CS on the workstation.
- In Windows Explorer, go to C:\ProgramData\Creative Solutions\Practice CS.tipThe ProgramData folder is a hidden folder. If you don’t see it, enable the option in Windows to display hidden files and folders or press the Windows key (between CTRL and ALT) + R and copyC:\ProgramData\Creative Solutions\Practice CSinto the Run window, then selectOK.
- Right-click on the LocalInstallation.ini file and selectOpenwith... \ Notepad.
- In the notepad file, add a new line under the [appSettings] section with this information:outlookdisable=true
- SelectFilethenSave.
- Restart Practice CS.noteRemoveTXTfrom the end of the document name so that the file extension isINI, and the document type isConfiguration Settings.
Re-enable Microsoft Outlook integration
To re-enable Microsoft Outlook integration, delete the outlookdisable=true line from the LocalInstallation.ini file and/or the NetworkInstallation.ini file, depending on whether it was disabled firm-wide or on a workstation-by-workstation basis. See the instructions earlier for steps on browsing to and editing those files.
Internal use only
To disable Outlook integration on a Virtual Office or SaaS environment, you'll need to see a Web Services Resolver. They can take these steps:
- Open Y:\practice cs data\firminstallation.ini with notepad. (If this file doesn’t exist, create a new text document named firminstallation.ini and add it to this location).
- In the FirmInstallation.ini file, enter[appsettings]. Selectenterand add this text:outlookdisable=true
- SelectFilethenSaveto save the changes.

- You'll need to have permission from the firm licensee to request this change.
- The change may take 24 to 48 hours. Set expectations accordingly.
- Staff don’t have to close Practice CS. However, the changes won’t take effect until Practice CS is exited and then restarted.
- The change on Virtual Office or Software as a Service environment can only be made for all workstations.
- Disabling the Outlook interface may cause email notifications to discontinue to work.
