Integrate firm with other solutions
Practice CS integrates with other CS Professional Suite applications. Examples of Integration include:
- Populating client information from UltraTax CS or Creative Solutions Accounting
- Importing Invoices from UltraTax CS or Creative Solutions Accounting
- Receiving Instructions from UltraTax to mark a project completed or on extension

, a process with which major CS applications can share client demographic information and client notes, uses a different mechanism from integration and isn't affected by anything described in this topic.Practice CS lets you have multiple databases called
Firms
. Integration can only be performed with 1 database at a time. The way you indicate to Practice CS which database you want to integrate with other applications is by:- SelectSetupthenFirm.
- Select thePreferences tab.
- Select theIntegrate this Firm with other solutionscheckbox.
- SelectEnter.note
- If this item is already checked in another database, you'll get the following message.Firm Training sample already has the integrate this firm with other solutions option selected.
- If you get this message and checking this item is the only action you've taken inSetupthenFirm, you'll need to selectYes.Enterwon’t be enabled.
In some circumstances, after checking

, the box won’t remain checked and integration functions in which data is being accepted into Practice CS won’t work.The most common reason why the
Integrate this Firm with other solutions
checkbox won’t remain checked is because the file that contains the name of the database that has that option checked is missing.The name of the file is
IntegrationSettings.xml
and should be found in the X:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data\Data
folder (where X is the drive letter of the network drive on which the Practice CS Shared Files are installed).Do the following to restore this file (all the following steps are performed at the server on which your database resides):
- Go toControl Panel \ Programs and Features(Windows Server 2008) orControl Panel \ Add or Remove Programs(Windows Server 2003).
- UninstallPractice CS Shared Files.
- Find the previously downloaded file, extract folder, or CD containing the latest version of Practice CS. The downloaded file is namedPracticeCSDownload.exe. This extract folder is namedPractice CS <version> Download..
- Run the Practice CS network Installation just as you did when you first installed or performed the last update.
- Go toX:\WinCSI\Practice CS Data\Dataand verify theIntegrationSettings.xmlfile is present.
- Open Practice CS, go toSetup,Firm, thenPreferencesand mark the checkbox forIntegrate this Firm with other solutions.
- Close Practice CS.
- Reopen Practice CS and verify thatIntegrate this Firm with other solutionsis still checked.
