Resolve issues with status events in UltraTax CS not completing or extending projects or tasks in Practice CS

If logging a completion or extension event in UltraTax CS doesn’t complete or extend the client’s project or task in Practice CS, follow these steps to resolve the issue:

Re-log the event

  1. Open the client in UltraTax CS.
  2. Go to
    Utilities
    Client Status
    .
  3. In the
    Log Event
    tab, select the button for the completion or extension event to log it for the client.
  4. Ensure the event’s date and time are current. Don’t modify these fields. You may enter a comment if necessary.
  5. Select
    Enter
    .
  6. Select
    Done
    .
  7. Close the client in UltraTax CS.
  8. In Practice CS, go to
    Actions
    Manage Projects
    .
  9. Select the
    Refresh
    button to update the
    Manage Projects
    screen.

Delete duplicate events

  1. Open the client in UltraTax CS.
  2. Go to
    Utilities
    Client Status
    .
  3. On the
    Log Event
    tab, use the
    Delete
    button to remove all instances of the completion and/or extension event.
  4. After deleting, select the button for the completion or extension event to log it again.
  5. Ensure the event’s date and time are current. Don’t modify these fields. You may enter a comment if necessary.
  6. Select
    Enter
    .
  7. Select
    Done
    .
  8. Close the client in UltraTax CS.
  9. In Practice CS, go to
    Actions
    Manage Projects
    .
  10. Select the
    Refresh
    button to update the
    Manage Projects
    screen.

Verify the client ID

Make sure the client ID in UltraTax CS matches the client ID in Practice CS. The Social Security number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) doesn’t need to match.

Confirm the completion or extension event in the project or task

In Practice CS:
  1. Go to
    Setup
    Clients
    .
  2. Select the client, then
    Edit
    .
  3. Go to the
    Projects
    tab.
  4. Find and double-click the project you want to complete or extend (or the project containing the relevant task).
  5. If you are completing/extending a project, stay on the
    Main
    tab. If you are completing a task, go to the
    Tasks
    tab and double-click the task.
  6. Ensure the
    Select solution
    dropdown points to the correct year of UltraTax CS.
  7. Make sure the
    Completion event
    or
    Extension event
    (for projects only—tasks can't be extended) is set to the correct UltraTax CS event.
note
If the client has multiple projects:
  • For projects with the same project ID/name and the same UltraTax CS year, Practice CS completes or extends the project with the oldest due date first. If your project is not the oldest, you must log the event more than once.
  • For projects with different IDs/names, Practice CS completes or extends only 1 project, even if you log the event multiple times. In this case, select a different completion or extension event.
