Troubleshoot: recurring project didn't generate next occurrence
There are a number of reasons a recurring project doesn't generate the next occurrence when it was supposed to. Follow these steps to help identify the cause and correct the problem.
- SelectActions, thenManage Projects.
- Double-click the project that that didn't generate its next occurrence.
- Select

- Check theRecurrence:
- IfNoneis selected, the project won't generate the next occurrence. Change the option to 1 of the 2 other options.
- IfUse Specified Ruleis selected, continue examining the Recurrence screen.
- IfUse Project Templateis selected:
- SelectCancelon the Recurrence screen and on the Project screen.
- SelectSetup,Templates, thenProjects.
- Select the project template, thenEdit.
- Select

- Under Frequency, make sure the Pattern isn't set toNone.
- Under Expiration, if the selected option is other thanNo end date, make sure that the next occurrence wouldn't exceed its maximum number of occurrences or generate past theEnd bydate.
- Under Generation, make sureWhen I manually created itisn't selected.
- Under Generation, ifWhen the current Schedule Item is completeis selected, make sure this is the option that was set for the project generation when the Tracking Description was changed to Completed. If it wasn't and then later changed toWhen the current Schedule Item is complete, projects that were already completed won't generate their next occurrence. Right-click the project and selectGenerate Next Projectto generate the occurrence that didn't generate automatically. The project should regenerate automatically for subsequent occurrences.
- Under Generation, ifn months and n days before next occurrenceis selected and this is the day when the next occurrence should generate, the generation may be in process. The generation process starts after opening Practice CS on or after the date the next occurrence of the project should've occurred. If you have a large number of projects, you may not see the new occurrences for several hours as the generation process occurs in the background at a slow pace to avoid impacting performance.
- Make any changes necessary based on the previous steps. SelectOKon the Recurrence window, thenOKon the Project window.
If the next occurrence of the project still doesn't generate, try the following steps:
- Right-click the project and generate the next project manually. It's possible that the next occurrence already exists and is being overlooked by the program. If you generate the next occurrence manually and the next occurrence already exists, you can delete it without any issues.
- Find out if your firm has recently changed the template.
