Set up and use custom fields
- SelectSetup, thenCustom Fields.tipYou can also right-click in the Custom Fields screen for the object and select either:Add Custom Field,Edit Custom Field, orDelete Custom Field.
- Select the object you want to set up the custom field for.
- Enter aDescriptionfor the custom field (up to 30 characters).noteThis will be used as the label for the custom field.
- Select aTypethat represents the type of data that will be entered into the field.noteTheCustom fieldsarticle explains the different types of data.
- ForTextfields, enter the maximumLength.
- Enter theSortnumber.noteTheSortnumber specifies the order in which the fields appear on theCustom Formatsscreen for the object.
- ForListfields, enter theList Items.
- To use custom fields:
- Go to theCustom fieldstab of the object's setup screen.noteThe fields set up for the object are displayed in the specifiedSortorder.
- Enter, modify, or delete values in the field.
- Close the object to save the changes.
note- ForTime & Expenseitems, you can also selectMoreat the end of the transaction line to open theCustom fieldsscreen.
- You can use the custom fields in any filter that corresponds to the type of object for which the custom fields was set up.
- You can use custom fields to group reports but only if it's aListorStaff Listtype.
importantAfter you've set up and entered values into a custom field, don’t change its type. This may result in errors when the field is used as a filter or displays on the layout of a report.
