Using the Chart Wizard

The Chart Wizard walks you through creating and formatting custom charts.
The
Chart Wizard
lets you create and format custom charts that you can add to reports.
note
In general, you can add a chart only to reports that contain data related to the data featured in the chart.
To open the
Chart Wizard
, follow these steps.
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Custom Formats
    .
  2. Open the report where you want to add the chart.
  3. You can either:
    1. Select
      Chart
      on the toolbar, then drag the cursor to create a container on the format for the chart.
    2. Then double-click the chart you added to open the
      Chart Wizard
      . Or,
    3. In the
      Fields
      pane, right-click
      Custom Chart
      and select
      Add Custom Chart
      .
  4. Select the tabs on the side to set up the chart.
  5. Enter a name for the chart, then select
    Add Custom Chart
    to add the chart to the system.
The chart is now available to use on other reports.

Chart type

  • Select the type of chart from the available options, including 2D and 3D types.
  • Select the option to change the orientation of the axes of the chart.
  • Set the rotation of the chart relative to the viewer.
  • Change the lighting of the chart.

Appearance

On this screen, you can change the appearance of individual elements of the chart.
  • Select
    Palette
    to determine the color palette for the chart.
  • Select a line, axis, or other element in the
    Preview
    pane and modify it.

Chart data

Select and set up the data for the chart on this screen.
  • In
    Series
    , add and delete data elements (series) and change the sequence in which they are displayed.
  • Select
    Series Settings
    to edit the names of the series, change the chart type of the selected series, and select the data that defines each series.
  • Select the
    Chart Series Formula Editor
    to open the
    Chart Series Formulas
    window, and select fields and set up formulas.

Titles

Use this screen to format additional text elements on the edges of the chart.
  • Select
    Titles
    to add and delete titles, make them visible or invisible, rename them, and specify their locations.
  • Select
    Title properties
    to edit the text shown in titles and format their appearance.

Axes

  • Select each axis to modify the title and font; select whether to display labels, tick marks, and grid lines.
  • Select to show the title or labels inside the table; and change the number format of the axis label.

Legend

  • Select
    Labels
    to format the font used for the labels within the legend.
  • Select the
    Header
    and
    Footer
    options to add and format text shown at the top and bottom of the legend.
  • Select
    Position
    to specify the position of the legend and whether it appears within the chart.
  • Select
    Grid layout
    to decide how you want the legend displayed (for example, as a vertical column or horizontal row).
