Custom formats toolbars

Learn how the Custom Formats toolbars support object creation, formatting, and layout control in the designer workspace.
To access the Custom Formats toolbars, choose
Setup
Custom Formats
to open the Custom Formats screen.
The Custom Formats screen includes three toolbars that are specific to this area of the application:
  • Toolbox toolbar
  • Formatting toolbar
  • Layout toolbar
To show or hide a toolbar, right-click the toolbar area and select the toolbar from the shortcut menu.

Toolbox toolbar

The Toolbox toolbar provides commands for selecting items and creating objects in the workspace.
Select
Returns the cursor to normal selection mode so you can select text fields and other items.
Textbox
Places a new text field in the layout. After inserting the text field, you can type text in the
OutputValue
field of the Properties pane or drag fields from the Fields pane into the text field.
RichTextBox
Places a new text field that supports rich text editing, such as font colors, font sizes, bullets, and manual line breaks. Field data can't be inserted into rich text fields.
Label
Places a new text field for simple text. After inserting the label, enter text in the
Text
field in the Properties pane.
Line
Places a new line in the layout.
Shape
Places a new shape in the layout.
Image
Places a new image field in the layout. You can then select an image by using the Attributes pane.
Chart
Places a new chart in the layout. You can double-click the chart to customize it using the Chart Wizard window.

Formatting toolbar

The Formatting toolbar provides commands for changing the appearance of text, lines, and shapes.
Style
Choose between normal text and three heading levels for the selected text field.
Font Name
Select a font for the selected text field.
Font Size
Select the font size for the selected text field.
Bold icon
Applies bold formatting to text in the selected text field.
Italic icon
Applies italic formatting to text in the selected text field.
Underline
Applies underline formatting to text in the selected text field.
Border
Opens the Format Border window, where you can define border line style, color, and visible sides for an object.
Foreground Color
Selects the text color for the selected object.
Background Color
Selects the background color for the selected object.
Line Color
Selects the color of lines or shapes.
Align Left
Aligns text in the selected text field with the left margin.
Center button
Centers text in the selected text field.
Align Right button
Aligns text in the selected text field with the right margin.
Justify
Justifies text so it aligns with both left and right margins.
Bullets
Makes the current line a bulleted item. Applies only to rich text fields.
Decrease Indent
Moves the paragraph to the left by decreasing indentation. Applies only to rich text fields.
Increase Indent
Moves the paragraph to the right by increasing indentation. Applies only to rich text fields.

Layout toolbar

The Layout toolbar provides commands for alignment, spacing, sizing, previewing, saving, and managing custom format layouts.

To select multiple objects, hold down
SHIFT
or
CTRL
while selecting the objects. You can also drag a selection field around them with the Select cursor.
Add Document
Adds a new invoice or statement format by using the Format Wizard.
Close
Closes the current format and lets you save or discard changes.
Save
Saves the current custom format.
Preview Magnifying glass Preview
Previews the custom format by using an invoice or statement from your firm's data.
Format Wizard
Opens the Format Wizard so you can change the information included in the custom format.
View Grid
Turns the background grid on or off.
Lock Controls
Locks the layout so objects can't be moved.
Align to Grid
Aligns objects to the background grid.
Align Lefts
Aligns multiple selected objects along their left edges.
Align Centers
Aligns multiple selected objects along their horizontal centers.
Align Rights
Aligns multiple selected objects along their right edges.
Aligns Tops
Aligns multiple selected objects along their top edges.
Align Middles
Aligns multiple selected objects along their vertical centers.
Align Bottoms
Aligns multiple selected objects along their bottom edges.
Make Same Width
Makes multiple selected objects the same width.
Size to Grid
Sizes the selected object to fit gridlines.
Make Same Height
Makes multiple selected objects the same height.
Make Same Size
Makes multiple selected objects the same width and height.
Make Horizontal Spacing Equal
Creates even horizontal spacing between selected objects.
Increase Horizontal Spacing
Increases horizontal spacing between selected objects.
Decrease Horizontal Spacing
Decreases horizontal spacing between selected objects.
Remove Horizontal Spacing
Removes horizontal spacing between selected objects.
Make Vertical Spacing Equal
Creates even vertical spacing between selected objects.
Increase Vertical Spacing
Increases vertical spacing between selected objects.
Decrease Vertical Spacing
Decreases vertical spacing between selected objects.
Remove Vertical Spacing
Removes vertical spacing between selected objects.
Center Horizontally
Centers the selected object horizontally within the current layout.
Center Vertically
Centers the selected object vertically within the current layout.
Bring to Front
Places the selected object in front of all other objects.
Send to Back
Places the selected object behind all other objects.
