Set up system preferences

Configure system preferences to control the preference and behavior of the application for your user account.
Use the System tab (
Setup
User Preferences
) to set preferences for the overall application. When you select a preference, a description appears in the text pane.

Set default preferences for new staff

Your firm's administrator, or any user with the required security permissions, can define default user preferences for new staff by going to
Setup
Firm
Preferences
tab. Staff members with security permissions can change these preferences at any time. To restore the firm's default preferences, select
Reset to new Staff defaults for Firm
.

Configure individual preferences

Use the following options to configure your system preferences:
  • Alternate background color on lists
    : Mark this checkbox to display all lists and grids with alternating white and gray backgrounds.
  • Use Enter key to move between fields
    : Mark this checkbox to use the Enter key to move to the next field during data entry.
  • Enable desktop notifications for monitored events
    : Mark this checkbox to receive desktop alerts in Practice CS. This option sends you alerts for monitored events that you define in the Notifications tab of the Firm setup screen. You can also view these notifications in the Notifications portlet of the Staff Dashboard.

    This option is available only if you are licensed for the Practice CS Project Management or Client Management module.
  • Show desktop notifications until closed
    : Mark this checkbox keep desktop alerts on screen until you manually close them.

  • Favorite screen
    : Select the dashboard or screen you want the application to open on startup. You can also access your favorite screen at any time by selecting the
    Favorite Screen
    button in the toolbar.
  • Reset the "Don’t show this message again" checkbox for all messages
    : Select
    Reset
    to reactivate all warning messages throughout the application. This clears any checkboxes you previously selected to suppress individual warnings.
