User Preferences overview

Customize controls and settings in the application, making it easier to complete your work efficiently.
To open User Preferences, go to
Setup

If User Preferences is not available in your Setup menu, you don’t have the required security permissions.
User Preferences displays the settings for the staff member who is currently logged in. You can configure preferences for the following areas of the application:
  • Time & Expense Entry
  • Billing
  • Receipt & Adjustment Entry
  • System (overall application settings)
  • Scheduling (available only if you are licensed for the Staff Management module)
Your firm's administrator, or any user with the required security permissions, can define default preferences for new staff at
Setup
Firm
Preferences
. Staff members can change these preferences at any time. To restore the firm's defaults, select
Reset to new Staff defaults for Firm
in the User Preferences window.

System

Use the System tab to set preferences for the overall application. You can use this tab to:
  • Display lists with an alternate background color
  • Use the Enter key to move between fields during data entry
  • Turn on desktop notifications
  • Select a favorite screen or dashboard to open when you start the application
To access your favorite screen from anywhere in the application, select the button on the Practice CS toolbar. To reactivate any warning messages you previously suppressed, select the
Reset
button.

Time & Expense Entry

Use the Time & Expense Entry tab to set field defaults, configure timer rounding methods, select time entry units, and adjust display settings.

Billing

Use the Billing tab to configure how you bill clients or engagements, control how WIP displays during billing, specify rounding methods for billing at standard, and set defaults for Detail Billing.

Receipt & Adjustment Entry

Use the Receipt & Adjustment Entry tab to set field defaults, configure entry options, display hash totals, and select the default tab to open when you open the Receipt & Adjustment Entry screen.

Scheduling

This tab is available only if you are licensed for the Staff Management module.
Use the Scheduling tab to define which schedule items appear on the Urgent tab of the Manage Staff screen. To display the Urgent tab in the Manage Staff screen, mark the
Enable Urgent Tab
checkbox.
