Control Date and Date fields in receipt and adjustment entry

In the
Receipt and Adjustment Entry
screen in Practice CS, the
Control Date
, and
Date
fields work differently. Understanding how each field works ensures receipts are posted to the correct period.
The
Receipt and Adjustment Entry
screen in Practice CS uses 2 date fields: the
Control Date
and the
Date
field on each transaction line.

Control date

The control date groups individual receipt or adjustment transactions into a logical set. Your firm can use a control date to represent a single day or multiple days. A common approach is to use a control date to represent a specific bank deposit, where each receipt in that deposit shares the same control date.
note
The control date doesn’t determine which period a receipt is posted to.

Date

When you enter a control date, Practice CS opens a data-entry grid where you enter individual receipt transactions. Enter a value in the
Date
field for each receipt or adjustment entry. The date you enter in this field determines which period that individual receipt or adjustment is recorded.
For example, if you date a receipt 5/31 but enter it under a control date of 6/1, it will appear on reports as a May payment.
note
For former users of the Creative Solutions Practice (CSP) application: This is the opposite of how dates work in CSP, where transactions are posted according to the control date used in A/R Entry.
