Signer delegation: signer experience
When the taxpayer selects Signer Delegation, the delegate receives an email notification. This email contains an access link. The signing experience is very similar to the taxpayer's but they’ll only have access to the e-file forms, not the rest of the return.
Authenticate
- Select onLet's Get Startedto access the signing documents.
- SelectSend Codefor authentication.
- A code is sent to your email OR your phone number. The verbiage on this screen states where it was sent.
- Enter the Access Code and selectConfirm.
Sign Documents
- SelectGet Started.
- A note appears from the taxpayer. SelectPrintif you would like to save this message.
- SelectNext.
- Select theStartflag to be led to your first signature line.
- Select the greenSignatureblock to open theAdd Signaturewindow.
- Continue to select the Next flag as you proceed through each signature.
- SelectTypeorDrawto choose your signature type.
- SelectApply.
- SelectNextto continue.

If the return is a 1040, the signer is required to enter their personal information and pass Knowledge-Based Authentication before they can eSign the return. If they fail, they are directed to print the documents and manually sign the return.
Decline to Sign
The delegate can decline to sign. Once they decline, the link is rendered invalid and they can no longer access the documents.
- SelectDecline.
- Enter the reason for declining.
- SelectSubmit.
Once they select
Submit
, they'll get a message saying they've declined signing the document and the link isn't valid.
