Link Authentication Options
Choose an authentication method to help verify a signer's identity before they can access and sign documents sent through Signatures.
When sending one or more documents for signature, you can choose a method of authentication for the signer. If authentication is enabled, the signer must successfully complete it before they can access and sign the document or documents.
Supported authentication methods
- The first 4 numbers of SSN/EIN
- Last 4 digits of SSN/EIN
- Access code (email)
- Access code (SMS)
- Question and answer
The authentication method is selected in the second step of the signature process. For more information about each method, refer to the table in this article.
Authentication methods explained
Authentication Method | Description |
|---|---|
First 4 of SSN/EIN | The sender enters the first 4 digits of the signer's Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN). The signer must enter the first 4 digits of their SSN or EIN. |
Last 4 of SSN/EIN | The sender enters the last 4 digits of the signer's Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN). The signer must enter the last 4 digits of their SSN or EIN. |
Access code (email) | The signer is prompted to request a one-time access code delivered to their email address. The code is valid for 20 minutes. |
Access code (SMS) | The sender enters the signer's mobile phone number. The signer is prompted to request a one-time access code delivered to their mobile phone number. The code is valid for 20 minutes. |
Question and answer | The sender selects a question-and-answer pair from a previously defined set or creates a custom pair. The signer must answer the selected or custom question correctly. |
