Change Mail Expiration Date

Set or update a message's expiration date within admin limits; archived messages inherit folder retention rules and are automatically deleted when they expire.
Sent and received messages have an expiration date. The date is the amount of time the message remains in your
Exchange
folder before being automatically deleted. The default expiration time frames (
Retention Periods
) are set by your system administrator in the
Admin Settings
.
note
  • You can't lower the expiry earlier than the current date; you can delete the mail instead.
  • You can't change the expiry to more days than the maximum time frame in your
    Admin Settings
    .
  • When moving a mail into an
    Archive
folder, the mail inherits the expiry of that folder. If the folder has a retention period less than the expiry of the mail, the mail’s expiry is updated to that of the folder.
  • Mail can't be moved to a folder with a higher retention period than the mail’s expiry.
You can change the expiry of any message in your Inbox by selecting on the date within the mail itself.
  1. Select the message to be edited.
  2. Select the
    Expiration date
in the top corner of the message.
  3. Select the
    Date
checkbox to select a new expiration date.
  4. Select
    Ok
    to save any changes.
