Print settings are an important part of uploading a return. By following these best practices, users can ensure that the return PDFs are ready for upload and avoid issues with upload or recognition.

State returns can be uploaded without an accompanying federal return. The main page of the state return must be included in the print. Follow these guidelines when printing state-only returns.

ProSystem fx
All PDF files must comply with the following:
- Returns must only be a Client Copy.
- Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
- Delete pages or bookmarks.
- Add pages or bookmarks.
- Password protect the PDF.
- Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
- Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems whenreuploading.
1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns
Entity returns must follow the previous rules, as well as the following:
- 1065 and 1120S returns must contain a K-1 package.
- The K-1 section of the PDF requires a cover page.
- If users want to remove any K-1 packages, delete them after upload.
- Print Entire Return
- Select theClientcheckbox and change theDestinationfiledTo PDF file.
- Select theK-1checkbox and change theDestinationfiledTo PDF file.
- Select theCreate Bookmark PDFscheckbox.
- Deselect theProduce separate PDF filescheckbox.
Axcess
All PDF files must comply with the following:
- Returns must only be a Client Copy.
- Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
- Delete pages or bookmarks.
- Add pages or bookmarks.
- Password protect the PDF.
- Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
- Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems whenreuploading.
1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns
Entity returns must follow the previous rules, as well as the following:
- 1065 and 1120S returns must contain a K-1 package.
- Every K-1 needs a cover page.
- If users want to remove any K-1 packages, delete them after upload.
- Print Entire Return
- In the print destination and formatting options:
- Mark theClientcheckbox and changePrint To:toPDF.
- Mark theK-1checkbox and changePrint To:toPDF.
- In Additional Options:
- DeselectCreate separate PDF / TIFF files.
- SelectCreate bookmark PDFs.
- In theSingle file locationselect theBrowsebutton to select the location to save the PDF copy.
UltraTax CS
All PDF files must comply with the following:
- Returns must only be a Client Copy.
- Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
- Delete pages or bookmarks.
- Add pages or bookmarks.
- Password protect the PDF.
- Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
- Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems whenreuploading.
1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns
Entity returns must follow the previous rules, as well as the following:
- 1065 and 1120S returns must contain a separate K-1 package.
Print Return
- Select theSelected Returnstab underPrint Options.
- Select which returns to print.
- At least a Federal return is required.
- SelectOK.
- Select a physical office printer underPrint Returns.
- If you don’t, returns may be printed incorrectly and rejected.
- Select theClient Copy,Electronic Delivery, andPDF to Filecheckboxes.
- SelectAssemble.
Print K-1 Package
- Select theSelected Packagestab underPrint Options
- Select to print all packages.
- SelectOK.
GoSystem Tax RS
All PDF files must comply with the following:
- Returns must only be a Client Copy.
- Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
- Delete pages or bookmarks.
- Add pages or bookmarks.
- Password protect the PDF.
- Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
- Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems whenreuploading.
1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns
Entity returns must follow the previous rules, as well as the following:
- 1065 and 1120S returns must contain a separate K-1 package.
Print Return
- SelectTaxpayerunder Copy Types.
- e-File Attachmentswill be selected by default. Our best practice is to upload attachments through SafeSend.
- SelectCreate PDF.
- Once the status isAvailable, you can
- Download it to PDFOR
- Send To SafeSend.
- Option only available for supported return types and if the firm has it enabled.

Print K-1 Package
1065 and 1120S returns must contain a separate K-1 package.
- Select theTypedropdown.
- SelectK-1 Packages.
- MarkCreate separate packages for each K-1.
- SelectCreate PDF.
- Select theDownloadicon.
Lacerte
All PDF files must comply with the following:
- Returns must only be a Client Copy.
- Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
- Delete pages or bookmarks.
- Add pages or bookmarks.
- Password protect the PDF.
- Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
- Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems whenreuploading.
1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns

- Select theClient Copyradio button.
- Select theFile (PDF)radio button.
- Don’tMask Social Security #.
- Don’tPassword Protect PDF.
- SelectOKto print.
Print K-1 Package
- 1065, 1120S, and certain 1041 returns must contain a K-1 package.
- If users want to remove the K-1 packages, that can be done after the return is uploaded.
- Select theK-1 Package Onlyradio button.
- SelectFile(PDF).
- SelectOKto print.
