Taxpayers can receive notifications via text once they have provided consent.
Turn on SMS Notifications
note
To ensure the taxpayer receives both notifications, both
Product
and Return
settings should be applied. Product Settings
SMS Text Notifications need to be turned on in the Product Settings for it to be an available option.

If you turn this off, this overrides any previously applied SMS settings.
- Select theNavigation Widget.
- SelectProduct Settings.
- SelectGeneral.
- SwitchSMS Text NotificationtoOn.
Return Settings
For the taxpayer to receive an SMS reminder to sign, this needs to be turned on in the
Return Settings
.- Go toSettingsinReturns.
- SelectE-Sign Options.
- MarkEnable email automatic signing reminders.
- MarkEnable SMS Tex Automatic signing reminders.
- Select the number of days before the due date you want the client to receive the reminder.
- SelectApply.
Turn on SMS Notifications for your client
SMS Notifications can be turned on for each client by updating the setting in Client Management or through the return process.
Enable in Client Management
- Select theNavigation Widget.
- SelectProduct Settings.
- SelectClient Management.
- SelectEditin theActionmenu for the client.
- SetSMS Text NotificationtoOn.
- SelectSave.
Enable while processing a return
If this is enabled during processing, it also updates in Client Management and defaults to
On

- Go to theDelivery Optionssection.
- SwitchSMS Text NotificationtoOn.
Enable for Delivered Return
If the taxpayer hasn’t signed, you can still turn the setting on in the
Client Info
section.- SelectEditin theActionmenu for the client.
- SetSMS Text NotificationtoOn.
- SelectSave.
Client Experience
Notifications Verbiage
The following messages outline the verbiage for each notification type.
- Signature Reminder: "Hi <Taxpayername>! This is a reminder to please sign your tax returns before the deadline.” - <CompanyName> "To stop receiving messages from us, simply text "STOP".
- This message also includes a link to access the return via mobile.
- The firm has received your signed tax forms: "Hi <Taxpayername>! Congrats! <CompanyName> has received your signed tax documents and will e-file your tax returns.” - <CompanyName> “To stop receiving messages from us, simply text "STOP".
Taxpayer Experience
The taxpayer needs to complete the initial authentication steps before the consent screen.
- Complete steps 1-3 of the Client Experience.
- The SMS Text Notification prompt appears.
- Taxpayers can enter their phone number and selectYes.
- If the taxpayer doesn't enter a phone number, the only option is to selectNo.
