Print settings are an important part of uploading a return. By following these best practices, users can ensure that the return PDFs are ready for upload and avoid issues with upload or recognition.
State returns can be uploaded without an accompanying federal return. The main page of the state return must be included in the print. Follow these guidelines when printing state-only returns.
Select on your print program from the following choices for detailed instructions.
All PDF files must comply with the following:
Returns must only be a Client Copy.
Modifying a return will generate errors, avoid doing the following:
Delete pages or bookmarks.
Add pages or bookmarks.
Password protect the PDF.
Add a digital signature that restricts access to the file.
Don’t mask the SSN/EIN as it can cause problems when
reuploading

1065, 1041, 1120 and 1120S Returns
Entity returns must follow the previous rules, as well as the following:
1065 and 1120S returns must contain a K-1 package.
The K-1 section of the PDF requires a cover page.
If users want to remove any K-1 packages, delete them after upload.
