Use the index tree
Use the
INDEX TREE
tab to place tax documents in their categories, search and filter the index tree, and select only the pages in your filtered results. The
INDEX TREE
tab lets you organize tax documents by placing them in their designated categories. For example, you can place a W-2 in the Income folder.SPbinder tidies your workspace by automatically filing certain documents in their index tree folders. SPbinder auto-indexes some tax documents to their categories, depending on the document type. You'll need to index the others manually.
- Standard (tax) documents:SPbinder automatically associates standard OCR-scanned documents with the INDEX TREE tab unless it can't recognize or match them.
- Non-standard documents:SurePrep’s AI/ML technology processes documents that OCR doesn’t recognize.
- If the AI/ML finds a match, SPbinder auto-indexes the document into the index tree.
- If the AI/ML technology doesn’t find a match, SPbinder marks the document asNot Indexed, and you'll need to index it yourself.

Select pages in a filtered index tree
When you filter or search the index tree, marking a parent folder or the top-level
Select All
checkbox only selects the pages and folders in your results. Pages outside the results stay cleared, so any operation you run affects only the filtered pages. To select filtered pages after entering a search term, mark the top-level
Select All
checkbox, or select a parent folder such as Income
.SPbinder checks only the pages and folders that match the filter, and the selection count equals the number of pages in the filtered results. Pages and folders outside the results stay unselected, even if they sit inside the parent folder you selected.
note
When no filter is active,
Select All
works as before and selects every page in the binder.Clear the filter and review your selection
After you select the filtered results, you can clear the filter and keep your selection. Only the pages that matched the filter remain marked, and the rest of the binder stays cleared. This lets you review your selection in the full index tree.
When you clear a parent node checkbox, SPbinder clears all of its child nodes, whether they sit inside or outside the filtered results. No stale checked state remains.
note
- With a filter active, these controls check only the pages and folders that match the filter.Select Alland parent folders affect filtered results only.
- Operations affect only selected pages, never unselected ones, even those outside your filtered results.
- Pages outside the filtered results stay cleared. They remain cleared even after you clear the filter.
- Your selection persists when you clear the filter.Only the pages that matched remain selected.
- Clearing a parent clears all of its children. This includes children inside and outside the filtered results.
- Nothing changes when no filter is active.Select Allcontinues to select every page in the binder.
