Step 1: Tax season checklist
Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.
Checklist | Description |
|---|---|
General Checklist | The general checklist will help you make sure you have all the hardware and application ready for the upcoming tax season. |
TaxCaddy Checklist | The TaxCaddy checklist will help you get ready for the upcoming tax season before you send your clients any invites or requests. |
Step 2: Get documents

In this initial phase, you can contact your clients and get the documents needed to prepare a tax return. For new first-year clients, you can expedite the process by uploading a client's tax return from the prior year to create proforma placeholders in the tax application (see Tax Return PDF Extraction).
Preparing a proforma has the following benefits:
- Ensures information is captured and exported to the correct form during verification and preparation.
- Track any missing documents in SPbinder and TaxCaddy
- Create a list of documents you want to request from your clients - when you are ready to get tax documents from your clients, TaxCaddy will use proforma information in the tax application to create a custom Document Request List (DRL) for each client.
