Set up SurePrep API integration in UltraTax CS

Setting up SurePrep API into UltraTax CS (local and Virtual Office/Software as a Service) can streamline your workflow from the tax software directly to SurePrep services. With UltraTax CS and SurePrep API integration, you can create 1040 clients in TaxCaddy from UltraTax CS.

Set up API integration with UltraTax CS

You'll need to complete a one-time set up to allow UltraTax the ability to create clients in TaxCaddy.
  1. Mark the
    Enable API access
    checkbox to enable API for your firm.
    Select the Enable API access checkbox
  2. Contact SurePrep Support to enable
    TaxCaddy API
    for your firm.
    note
    Enabling
    TaxCaddy API
    is required to complete the set up process. You won't be able to create TaxCaddy Clients from UltraTax without this step. Please contact SurePrep Support to enable
    TaxCaddy API
    for your firm.
  3. Go to the
    User Management
    tab and select
    New user
    to create an API user.
    Select New User
    note
    Only Firm System Administrators can access the
    API
    tab in
    Account Admin
    .
  4. Generate an API key, then select
    Copy Key
    to copy the API Key to your clipboard.
    Select Copy Key
  5. Open UltraTax CS.
  6. Select
    Setup
    then
    System Configurations
    .
    Select Setup then System Configuration
  7. Select the
    SurePrep API
    tab,
    Enable SurePrep Integration
    , then
    Import API Key
    .
    Select SurePrep API, Enable SurePrep Integration, then Import API Key
  8. On the
    Import API Key
    window:
    1. Enter the SurePrep API username you created earlier in
      Account Admin
      .
    2. Enter the SurePrep API password you created in
      Account Admin
      .
    3. For
      Staff email
      , enter the name of a firm user with access to TaxCaddy
      Client Management
      . This user will be assigned the Owner of the client data.
    4. Press
      Ctrl
      +
      V
      to paste the SurePrep
      API key
      you generated and copied to the clipboard.
  9. Select
    Test Connection
    . If you see the Connected status, select
    Save
    to complete the set up.
    Select Test Connection, then Save
  10. Close and restart UltraTax CS for the changes to take effect.

After you complete your one-time set up, you can now create TaxCaddy clients from UltraTax CS (local or Virtual Office/Software as a Service).
