Fiddler application - installation and error logging steps

What is Fiddler?
Fiddler is a third-party Telerik tool (application) used to log, inspect, and alter HTTP and HTTPS traffic between a computer and a web server or servers.
Fiddler is one of the most popular tools used to inspect your HTTP Traffic. When you run Fiddler on your system, it acts as a tiny web proxy that sits between your client application and the web server. Fiddler only starts capturing traffic when you are running it.
Installing Fiddler
Select
Try for Free
and enter the details required. Then select
Download for Windows
.
Install the file you downloaded.
Run Fiddler
Once Fiddler is downloaded and installed by your IT team on your workstations, it will appear in the installed application section of the workstation.
Open Fiddler and go to
Tools
Options
.
In the
Options
window, select the
HTTPS
tab, then select the following 3 options:
  • Capture HTTPS Connects
  • Decrypt HTTPS traffic
  • Ignore server certificate errors (unsafe)
Select
OK
to save the changes.
With the Fiddler application running in the background, try to recreate the issue. It will display codes in the
Result
column.
If the value shows 404, 500, or others in the
Result
column, along with a red caution sign, then take a screenshot of the result and provide it to Support for further investigation. Double-click on the error, which shows a value other than 200, that is, 404 or 401.
You will see statuses with several tabs (for example, Header, Textview, SyntaxView, WebForm, HexView, etc.). Selecting any one of the tabs will show the details of the error.
Select the
TexView
tab, take a screenshot and share it with SurePrep's Support team for further investigation.
We’ll need a screenshot of both Fiddler error log windows, either individual windows or error log windows being beside each other.
Alternatively, you can also save the log file (Save it from the File menu as a
.saz
file on your network/local drive and share it with Support for further investigation).
  1. Select
File > Save > All Sessions...
  2. Save the traffic to a
    .SAZ
    file.
