Excel limitations in SPbinder

Excel feature in SPbinder has the following limitations:
  • Cell comments and form controls (such as buttons, checkboxes, list boxes) won’t be read from Excel files.
  • Pivot tables are not supported (that is, GETPIVOTDATA).
  • Reading and writing of shapes are limited to a few shapes. Unsupported shapes won’t appear in the SPbinder.
  • Excel files with hidden sheets are not supported. Delete the hidden sheets from the Excel files before uploading the files, make the hidden sheets visible before uploading the files, or don’t upload those files.
  • Certain fields may show #NAME, #REF, #N/A value in SPbinder.
  • SPbinder doesn’t support hidden rows and columns. Unhide any cells before uploading the Excel.

Data shows the value as #NAME, #REF, #N/A

Some data in the Excel file doesn’t show up properly and the value shows as #NAME,#REF, or #N/A. The issue could also be caused if an Excel function is not supported.
Follow these steps to possibly resolve the issue:
Option 1 - Rename Client ID folder
First close the binder, then go to the
SurePrep Download Folder
path on your machine/network.
Next, go to the folder that the binder's tax year is associated with (for example, 2019, 2020, 2021).
Go to
SPDocument Files
.
Locate the folder with the same Client ID as the binder, right-click, then select
Rename
. Give the folder another name to force SPbinder to download a new copy of the binder.
Open the binder again to see if the issue resolved.
Option 2
Open the Excel in the native application.
Open the binder, on the Document Viewer, select the
SurePrep
tab.
Select
Open in Excel
.
Check if the values appear properly or not.
If the values appear properly in the Excel file, save the excel and reload in the binder.
If the value doesn’t appear properly, then contact SurePrep Support to resolve this issue.

Hidden spreadsheets in Excel

Excel files with hidden spreadsheets are not supported. When submitting an Excel file, delete the hidden sheets from the Excel files before uploading the files, make the hidden sheets visible before uploading the files, or don’t upload those files.
If you opened an Excel file from SPbinder and then hide the Excel spreadsheet, it will disappear from the
Thumbnail
and
INDEX TREE
. Re-opening the Excel and then unhiding the sheet won’t restore the sheet.
Solution: Unhide and re-import the Excel spreadsheet or copy that information to a new excel spreadsheet and import the new spreadsheet.
