The
Questionnaire
feature allows you to prepare a generic template with questions that can be bulk sent to multiple clients. By default, TaxCaddy already provides you with a questionnaire template that you can use to customize questions that go out to your clients. You can customize the questionnaire template by adding, editing, or deleting questions.Accessing the Questionnaire Template
To view the questionnaire template, select
Administrative
, then select QUESTIONNAIRE
.
Questionnaire settings
On the left panel, you can select
Settings
to view or update your firm-wide questionnaire settings. 
Select Tax Year
On the left panel, you can select the
TAX YEAR
dropdown menu to select the tax year you want to modify.
Add New Questionnaire Template
If you see a blank questionnaire for the selected tax year, then select
NEW
on the lower-left panel to add a new questionnaire template from scratch.
Select
FROM PRIOR YEAR
to transfer your firm's prior year questionnaire to the current year.
Copying a prior year's questionnaire template will copy enabled/disabled life-changing events along with questions within those events.
You can also delete the current questionnaire template and start again the default questionnaire template.
Expand or Collapse Left Panel
You can select the

icon to expand or collapse the left panel. A collapsed left panel will give you extra screen space to work on the questionnaire.

Life-Changing Events
On the right panel, the questions are split into categories based on life-changing events. Making the questionnaire less time-consuming and easier to answer for the taxpayer. Taxpayers will only need to answer questions based on life-changing events they select. Similarly, tax professionals will only see questions based on life-changing events selected by their clients.
Taxpayer questionnaire will be grouped based on the following life-changing events:
- First-Time Client
- Marital Change
- Children/Dependent Information Change
- Moved
- Bought, Sold, or Owned Property
- Job Change
- Own or Owned a Business
- Retirement Contributions or Distributions
- Own or Owned Cryptocurrencies
- General Questions
New life-changing events added for a tax year will show the
New for Tax Year XXXX
badge.
You can select the category name to expand or collapse the category. Each category shows questions pertaining to that category.
Enable/Disable Categories
You can clear the checkbox if you don't want to send your clients questions pertaining to that life-changing event. Similarly, you can select the checkbox to send your clients questions related to that life-changing event.
Life-changing events that are not selected to appear for your client will show the 
) badge.

Selecting a life-changing event will allow your clients to see that life-changing event as an option. However, questions will only appear if the life-changing event is selected by the client. If you want to make a question available to all clients irrespective of life-changing events then you can move the question to the
Other Category
.Add, Edit, and Delete Questions
You can customize questions for each life-changing event category by adding, editing, or deleting questions.

Adding Follow-Up Questions
You can trigger a follow-up question to appear below any multiple-choice question included in your firm's questionnaire.
Create DRL from questionnaire
You can automatically trigger a document request from your clients based on a response to a specific question.
General Questions Category
Questions in the
General Questions
category will be visible to all taxpayers irrespective of which life-changing events they selected. Miscellaneous questions that don’t match a life-changing event can be placed in the General Questions
category.

Questionnaires created in 2019 or earlier can be found in the
General Questions
category.First-Time Client Category
The
First-Time Client
category applies to new taxpayer users for the firm. Taxpayers will only see questions for the First-Time Client
category when all of the following conditions apply:- The taxpayer connected with your firm during the selected Questionnaire's tax year.
- From November 1 of the selected Questionnaire'sTax Year
- TO:October 31 of the selected Questionnaire'sTax Year + 1
- A Custom DRL is either not created or has no document requests (blank) at the time the taxpayer starts the questionnaire.
To ensure that taxpayers only see the
First-Time Client
category questions when appropriate, make sure the custom DRLs are created prior to the taxpayer opening the questionnaire for the first time.
Questionnaire Template Menu
On the left panel, you can delete the current questionnaire template or copy the current year's questionnaire to the next year.
What's Next?
Once you have reviewed the questionnaire and made the necessary modifications, you can send the questionnaire to all applicable clients.
