Uploading documents lets you add and share tax documents with your tax professional. You can also use the upload documents feature to fulfill existing documents requested by your tax professional.

You can also retrieve documents directly from your financial institution, share downloaded or saved documents from your phone with TaxCaddy, or upload requested items.
TaxCaddy.com on PC, Mac, or tablet
Follow these steps to upload documents using TaxCaddy.com on your PC, Mac, or tablet.
  1. Sign in to TaxCaddy.com.
  2. From the
    Overview
    screen, you will see the
    UPLOAD A DOCUMENT
    feature following your
    Task List
    . Select
    UPLOAD A DOCUMENT
    .

  3. Go to the location of the files on your device and select the files to upload.
    note
    Accepted file formats include: PDF, DOCX, XLS, and XLSX. You can upload multiple files to the same category at 1 time.
  4. When the
    Upload Documents
    window appears, select a
    Category
    and
    TAX YEAR
    for the document.

    If you are uploading multiple files that need to be filed to separate categories, select
    Decide Later
    .

    If your tax professional has enabled 1041 tax return profiles on your account, select the correct
    TAX RETURN
    in addition to the
    TAX YEAR
    before selecting the
    Category
    .
    Select a tax year, tax return, and category
    note
    Some categories only apply to 1040 tax return types and won’t appear when moving a 1041 specific document and vice versa.
    If you are unable to find a category, select the
    Show All
    tab.
    Select Show All
    You can also use the search bar to find your category.

  5. Select a subcategory or select
    +Add New
    to add a new subcategory.
    Select Add New
  6. After you've selected your subcategory, select
    UPLOAD
    .
    Select UPLOAD
  7. Wait for the files to complete uploading, then select
    CLOSE
    .

    Drag or click here to upload documents
    or drag additional documents onto the drop zone to upload more documents to the same category.
    Select CLOSE
  8. To view uploaded documents, go to
    Documents
    Uploaded Documents
    tab. Documents will appear in the assigned category and tax year.

  9. Alternatively, you will see panels to
    Upload _____ Tax Documents
    in
    Quick access options
    . Each panel uploads documents to a specific tax year. You can select the panels or drag documents on either one of the top 2 panels. Your document will be uploaded according to the tax year listed on the panel.

iOS mobile app
Follow these steps to upload documents by taking a photo with the TaxCaddy iPhone mobile phone app or uploading from other services.
  1. Sign in to the TaxCaddy mobile app. If you're already signed in, make sure you're on the
    Overview
    screen by selecting the
    Overview
    icon on the navigation bar.
    Select Overview
  2. Select
    +UPLOAD
    .
    Select UPLOAD
  3. You can upload a document from your device or take a photo. To upload from a local device or iCloud, select
    Upload Files
    .
    Select Upload Files

    Accepted file formats include: PDF, DOCX, XLS, and XLSX. You can upload multiple files to the same category.
    Alternatively, you can go to the
    Documents
    screen, select the
    Menu
    icon, then
    Upload Files
    .
    Select Upload a File
  4. If you prefer to take a photo of your document, select
    Take A Photo
    .
    Select Take a Photo
    Alternatively, you can go to the
    Documents
    screen, select the
    Menu
    icon, then
    Take a Photo
    .

    If you selected
    Take a Photo
    for the 1st time, TaxCaddy will need permission to access the camera. Select
    SET PERMISSION
    to continue.
    Select SET PERMISSION
    If you see the requesting permission window, select
    OK
    to let TaxCaddy access your camera.
  5. Position the camera over the document. Additional instructions appear onscreen. The photo will be captured automatically when the camera is properly aligned with the document. If TaxCaddy can't automatically take the photo after 20 seconds, you'll be given an option to take it manually.
  6. Select the tax year to upload the document to another tax year.

    Tax Return
    in addition to the
    Tax Year
    before selecting the
    Category
    .

  7. Select a category for the document, or select
    Decide Later
    to skip without selecting a category.

  8. You can also select the
    All
    tab to view all the categories or use the search input field to search for a category by name.

  9. If necessary, select a subcategory or add a new subcategory. To add a new subcategory, select the
    Add
    icon.

    If you selected to add a new category, enter the new category name and select
    Next

    Enter the new subcategory and select Next
  10. Review your document information. You can select the
    Enter Document name
    field to change the document name. Similarly, you can select tax year, category, or subcategory to select different options if necessary.

    SAVE
    to upload the document.

Android mobile app
Follow these steps to upload documents by taking a photo with the TaxCaddy Android mobile phone app.
  1. Sign in to the TaxCaddy mobile app.
  2. Select the floating upload icon.
    Select Upload from the Overview screen
  3. You can upload a document from your device or take a photo. To upload from local device, Drop Box, or Google Drive, select
    Upload Files
    .
    Select Upload Files
    Alternatively, you can select
    Menu
    ,
    Documents
    ,
    Menu
    , then
    Upload Files
    .
    Select Upload Files

  5. Position the camera over the document. Additional instructions appear onscreen. The photo will be captured automatically when the camera is properly aligned with the document. If TaxCaddy can't automatically take the photo after 20 seconds, you'll be given an option to take it manually.

    RETAKE
    to take the photo again,
    EDIT
    to edit the photo, or
    USE
    to use the current photo.

  7. After taking the photo, confirm whether or not the document contains multiple pages.

  8. Select the tax year to upload the document to another tax year.

    Tax Year
    before selecting the
    Category

  9. Select a category for the document, or select
    Decide Later

  11. If necessary, select a subcategory or add a new subcategory. To add a new subcategory, select the
    Add
    icon.

    If you selected to add a new category, enter the new category name and select
    Next
    .
    Enter your subcategory then select NEXT
  12. Review your document information. You can select the
    Document name
    field to change the document name. Similarly, you can select tax year, category, or subcategory to select different options if necessary.

  13. Select
    SUBMIT
    to upload the document.

Files exceeding 1GB in size can't be uploaded.
