F1040X-001 e-file error
This amended return cannot be filed electronically. Please submit a paper amended tax return. To find a proper mailing address, go to irs.gov/file.
You'll get this error if the original return meets 1 or more of these conditions:
- It's not a 1040 or 1040-SR.
- It has a different taxpayer or spouse SSN from the amended return.
- The filing status differs from the amended return.
- It doesn't exist in the IRS e-file database: it wasn't e-filed or there's an error in the IRS database.
These conditions are IRS e-file limitations. You can't e-file returns that meet these conditions.
Solution
You need to file the return on paper.
