F8283-028-01 e-file error
If Form 8283, Section A Line 1 Column (b) checkbox 'DonatedPropertyVehicleInd' is checked, then "Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes Statement" [ContributionsOfMotorVehiclesBoatsAndAirplanesStatement] or "Contemporaneous Written Acknowledgment Statement" [ContemporaneousWrittenAcknowledgmentStatement] must be attached to 'InformationOnDonatedProperty' for the corresponding vehicle. (rule F8283-028)
You'll get this error message if there's incorrect data and an attachment that's either missing or has the wrong title.
Solution
- Go to the 8283P1 and 8283P2 screens in the Itemized Deductions folder.
- Delete any donated vehicles, boats, or airplanes entered on either screen.noteYou can selectEdit, thenDelete Screen Datato clear the screen.
- Go to the 1098C screen in the Itemized Deductions folder.
- Complete the following fields:
- Box 1, Date of contribution
- Box 3, Vehicle or other identification number (VIN)
- At least 1 of the following:
- Boxes 4a, 4b, and 4c
- Boxes 4b, and 4c
- Box 5a
- Box 5b
- Box 7
- Reporting method
- Fair market value on date of contribution
- If you can't complete any of these fields, you'll need to file the return on paper.
- Go to the 8453 screen in the Electronic Filing folder
- Enter1or3in theForm 1098-Cfield.
- Check the 8453 filing instructions in the return for information on how to send the 1098-C or contemporaneous written acknowledgment to the IRS.
- Attach Form 1098-C or the contemporaneous written acknowledgment as a PDF. Make sure to use the correct attachment title.
- Recreate and retransmit the return.
