F8863-026-01 e-file error
If Form 8863, 'RefundableAmerOppCreditAmt' and/or 'TentativeEducCrLessRfdblCrAmt' has a non-zero value, then 'EIN' must have a value in each occurrence of 'EducationalInstitutionGroup' in the 'StudentAndEducationalInstnGrp'.
This error message displays if the institution EIN is missing for the American Opportunity Credit on Form 8863.
Solution
- Go to the Educate folder.
- Select the Educate screen.
- Open theEligible student informationstatement.
- Enter the EIN in the Institution EIN column.
- Switch to Form view and make sure the EIN displays in Form 8863, Page 2, line 4.
- Recreate and retransmit the e-file.
If a client gets this error on a prior year return and they didn't receive a 1098T (meaning lines 2 and 3 should actually be marked no and not yes), override line 4 with the EIN.
