IND-181-01 e-file error
The Primary Taxpayer did not enter a valid Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN). Please visit www.irs.gov/getanippin for further information and resubmit your return with the correct number. (value #########, rule IND-181-01).
You'll get this error if the taxpayer was issued an IP PIN, but it's not in the return.
Solution
- Go to theElectronic Filingfolder.
- Select theIDAuthtab.
- Find the Identity Protection PIN section.
- Enter the 6-digit identity protection PIN inTaxpayer.noteThis PIN needs to match the PIN provided by the IRS for the current tax year.
- If the taxpayer doesn't know their PIN, or if you receive this rejection multiple times, ask the taxpayer to follow the IRS's instructions to retrieve their IP PIN.
