R0000-500-01 e-file error

Resolve R0000-500-01 when taxpayer SSN/name control doesn't match IRS e-file records.
'PrimarySSN' and 'PrimaryNameControlTxt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database. (value #########, rule R0000-500-01)
note
The value represents the Social Security number of the person causing the rejection.
The IRS e-file database includes a name control and Social Security number for each filer. This rejection means that the information sent in the e-file doesn't match what the IRS has in the database. This can happen if you enter the wrong name or SSN into UltraTax CS. Otherwise, there are a few possible causes that you may need to work out with the IRS or Social Security administration.

Solution

  1. Go to the General folder.
  2. Select the 1040 screen.
  3. For the taxpayer, make sure the
    SSN
    ,
    First name
    , and
    Last name
fields to make sure they're correct.
  4. Correct any typos or wrong information. Then re-create and retransmit the e-file.
  5. If the name and SSN are correct:
    • If the taxpayer has multiple last names, refer to the Individual Name Control section of Publication 4164. You may need to enter their name differently to correct this rejection.
    • A taxpayer can view their transcript through their Individual Online Account at irs.gov to view what name is on file. If a taxpayer doesn’t have an Individual Online Account, they can set up an account at irs.gov to view their transcript. If the taxpayer's name needs to be corrected in the program, make the needed correction then re-create and retransmit the return.
    • The name control can be forced if necessary. Go to the ELF screen in the Electronic Filing folder and enter it in the
      Taxpayer name Control (Force)
field. Then re-create and retransmit the return.
    • If forcing the name control doesn't correct the issue, ask the taxpayer to contact the Social Security administration at 800.772.1213 to verify their last name and SSN. If a correction is needed, it may take the SSA up to 10 days to notify the IRS after they’ve updated their files. Afterward, you can resubmit the electronic return.
