Prepare estimated tax payments for extensions
If you're extending a 1040 return but still need to calculate and/or pay estimates, do the following.
- Open the client and go to theEstscreen in the Payments folder.
- In the2026Estimates — Calculated section, useForm 1040-ES -to choose how you're calculating the payment amounts.2026declaration
- Complete theEstscreen based on the code you've chosen.
You'll need to make sure you include the estimates with the extension when printing or e-filing. If you're paying via electronic funds withdrawal (EFW), you'll also need to set that up before you e-file.
