You need to complete both fields correctly to enter the filing status information necessary to complete the Filing Status section on Page 1 of the 1040NR return.
- Enter a filing status in theCodefield in the 1040 screen. The codes for a nonresident alien return include1(Single),3(Married filing separate), and5(Qualifying widow or widower).
- Enter the nonresident single or married code in the 1040 screen.
