The Filing Status Optimization Utility can help you assign dependents to the taxpayer or spouse to save taxes.

To include dependents in the calculation, go to the

1040

screen in the General
folder. The system assigns dependents depending on their code.

Code J
: Either the taxpayer or the spouse. This depends on which option saves the most tax for married filing separate status.

Code T
or no code: Taxpayer.

Code S
: Spouse.
