Generate separate estimated payments for taxpayer and spouse

You can use the Filing Status Optimization utility to create separate taxpayer and spouse returns. You can print separate estimated tax payment vouchers from those returns.
If you need to make adjustments to account for the change in filing status, go to the
TPW
folder, then select 2024 declaration code
8
in the
Est
screen . Then you can enter the sum of the taxpayer and spouse voucher amounts in the joint return in the
Estimates paid
field for each quarter's payments.
Use Form 1040-ES 2024 declaration code
7
to suppress vouchers in the joint return. Mark the
Suppress printing of estimate filing instruction with code #7
checkbox. This rolls the expected estimated tax payments forward to the 2024 joint return and doesn't generate any 1040-ES vouchers in the 2023 joint return.
note
You can print 1040-ES vouchers with only the taxpayer or spouse name. In the
Est
screen , select
T
or
S
in the
Print name on 1040-ES vouchers
field. This prints the 1040-ES estimated tax vouchers for a married filing joint return with only the taxpayer or spouse name instead of both names. The application doesn't make any calculations in the joint return to determine separate tax liability.  However, you can make adjustments in the Tax Projection Worksheet and use
Form 1040-ES - declaration
code
8
.
