Screen 8283P2 - Noncash Contributions Greater Than $5,000 (1040)

Overview
Use this screen to enter noncash contributions of items or groups of similar items of value greater than $5,000.
note
- UltraTax CS generates one Form 8283, Page 2 for each 8283P2 screen.
- Use the 1098C screen, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes to enter information related to the donation of a vehicle, boat, or airplane. Contributions entered on the 1098C screen will be reported on Form 8283, Page 2 when the applicable reporting method is selected.
You may select a custom paragraph to include Form 8283, Page 2 signature and filing instructions in the filing instructions. To select this custom paragraph on a client basis, select custom paragraph

from one of the Paragraph Description
fieldviews in the Letter screen. To select this custom paragraph to print for all clients when applicable, select Setup
then 1040 Individual

Use this section to enter general information regarding Form 8283, Page 2, Section B.
State
If you are processing a state return, enter a state postal code for proper state processing. Press F4 from this field to view a list of available state postal codes.
Refer to State fields in UltraTax CS/1040 for more information.
Contribution type
Use this field to indicate the type of property contributed. The available codes are listed in the corresponding fieldview. If no entry is made, UltraTax CS defaults to
50% property
for the type of property contributed.Type of property
Use this field to indicate the type of property donated. UltraTax CS uses the code entered to mark the appropriate box on Form 8283, Page 2. The available codes are listed in the corresponding fieldview.
Donated Property Information for Properties A, B, C, and D
Use these sections to enter information related to the properties to be included on Form 8283, Page 2. If the client donated more than four different items, enter this information on additional units of this screen.
Date acquired by donor
Enter the approximate date the property was acquired by the donor.
How acquired by donor
Indicate how the property was acquired by the donor. The available codes are listed in the corresponding fieldview. If no entry is made, UltraTax CS defaults to
Purchase
as the method by which the property was acquired.Donor's cost or basis
Enter the cost or basis of the donated property in this field. Enter
0
(zero) in these fields for instances when the donor has no basis.Deduction code
Enter the deduction code. This code determines in which field the contribution amount is placed on Form 8283, Page 2. The available codes are listed in the corresponding fieldview.
Deduction amount for Schedule A (Force)
Enter an amount in this field if you want to override (force) the calculated charitable contribution deduction amount to appear on Schedule A.
State use
If applicable, enter a state use code or select a code from the fieldview. The codes that are available in this field are specific to the state postal code entered in the
State
field. If state use codes are not applicable to the entered state, this field will be disabled (shaded).note
- For Colorado returns, enter state use code9to designate a contribution as qualifying for conservation easement in gross credit. Colorado uses the charitable contribution deduction, taken on the federal Schedule A, to determine the amount of any addition to income required on the applicable Colorado forms. The contribution amount used in Colorado is reduced by a bargain sale amount received.
- For Indiana returns, information on this screen is not used by UltraTax CS/1040-IN. If the contribution qualifies for the Indiana Schedule CC-40 credit contributions made to Indiana colleges and universities, enter the applicable information on the INCr screen. If you enter24in this field, the 1040-Indiana program displays a reminder diagnostic message if no amounts are entered in the statement for Schedule CC-40 credit detail on the INCr screen.
- For Iowa returns, enter state use code13to identify the School Tuition Organization contributions. The amount will transfer to UltraTax CS/1040-IA IACr screen to be used in full when calculating Form IA 148. If the contribution is subject to AGI limitations, only the amount allowed on federal Schedule A from Iowa Schedule A will be excluded. Any disallowed federal carryover will proforma and the future Iowa Schedule A will be adjusted.
- For Missouri returns, enter state use code18to designate a Food pantry contribution. Missouri uses the charitable contribution deduction taken on federal Schedule A to determine the amount of addition to income required on the applicable Missouri forms.
- For Oregon returns, enter state use code10,11,14,15, or16to identify the type of credit for which the contributions qualify. The add-back to income and the credit amount will display with the proper codes on the Oregon forms.
Appraiser Information
Use this section to enter the information to complete Part II for items included in Part I that have an appraised value of $500 or less per item.
Identifying letter of appraised property or applicable 1098C property
Enter the letter A, B, C, or D, or the corresponding unit number of the applicable 1098C property, to identify in which group in Part I this item is included.
Specific item description
UltraTax CS automatically transfers the description entered in the
Description
field that corresponds with the identifying letter entered for the appraised property. You can override this description by entering a description in this field.Business address / City, state, zip code
Enter the business address of the appraiser.
The
Business address
field contains a linked custom fieldview, which enables you to automatically enter data in the related City

, and zip code
fields. Click the down arrow and choose Edit Multi-field Custom Fieldview to open the Custom Fieldview dialog, in which you can enter, edit, or select a fieldview item for these linked fields. Use the fields in this section to identify the donee organization, the address of the organization, the date the donation was received, and to indicate whether or not the organization intends to use the property for an unrelated use.
