Miscellaneous

Use this section to complete portions of Form 40 or 40NR. You can also use this section to force UltraTax CS to use either the standard or itemized deductions.
Married filing separate spouse social security number
If you didn't enter the spouse Social Security number in the federal
1040
screen, then enter the spouse Social Security number in this field.
Former spouse social security number if divorced and made joint estimated payments
For a taxpayer who divorced during and made joint estimated tax payments with the former spouse, enter the Social Security number of the former spouse. This Social Security number prints on Form 40 or 40NR with the text DIV.
Standard or itemized deductions (Force)
If you forced either standard or itemized deductions on the federal return (by using the checkbox in the
1040
screen), UltraTax/1040-AL defaults to the federal
Force
entry. To force Alabama standard or itemized deductions independently of the federal
Force
, enter the code.
Reason for not filing last year
Enter the reason an Alabama income tax return wasn't filed in the previous year in the statement window. UltraTax CS marks the No checkbox on Form 40, Part IV, line 2, or Form 40NR, Part VI, line 4.
Current employer name (Force): Taxpayer / Spouse
Select code
1
to complete the current employer name as Self Employed for Part IV, Alabama Form 40, Page 2 or Part VI, Alabama Form 40NR. If code
2
is selected because there's no current employer, the text None prints on the form. Data entry in this field overrides data entry from the federal
W2
screen, current employer information.
Income not reported on Alabama return
UltraTax CS includes the amounts you enter in the statement window on Form 40, Part IV, line 5. UltraTax CS calculates differences between federal and Alabama income for wages, capital gains, Schedule C, rent and royalty, Schedule F, alimony, sale of residence, other income, nontaxable pensions, taxable Social Security benefits, unemployment compensation, and interest on U.S. obligations. UltraTax CS enters the differences on Form 40, Part IV, line 5 at print time.
Suppress system-generated items
Enter
X
if you don't want the generated items to appear on Form 40, Part IV, line 5. Any preparer-entered amounts still appear.

Use this field to change the option indicated in the federal
1040
screen. A global default is available for all new clients for both federal and state returns. To select this option, select

. From the dropdown list, select
