Use this screen to provide additional information needed to complete Forms 40 and 40NR.
If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 doesn't require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-AL shows the information on the form only, not in the input screen.

Part-Year Resident Information

This section is used to complete portions of Alabama Forms 40 and 40NR.

Nonresident Information

This section is used to complete portions of Alabama Form 40NR.
Filing both Form 40 and 40NR
For nonresident returns, enter
X
if you are filing both Forms 40 and 40NR. This causes the dependent exemption and the personal exemption to equal zero.
Spouse received separate income
For nonresident returns, if you enter
X
, UltraTax CS marks the Yes checkbox on Form 40NR, Part VI, line 3.
Spouse is filing separate Alabama return
For nonresident returns, enter
X
to have the second question on Form 40NR, Part VI, line 3 marked Yes. This causes the spouse's name to appear on the line following the questions.
Reason not filing a resident state return
For nonresident returns, enter in the statement window attached to this field the reason for not filing a return with the resident state. UltraTax CS marks the No checkbox and prints the reason not filing a resident return on Form 40NR, Part VI, line 2.
Business income from all sources (Force) / ... / Rental income from all sources not taxable to Alabama (Force)
Use these fields to override the associated All source income amount on Form 40NR, Page 2 or Form BDE. The All source column is calculated as federal net income plus federal depreciation without section 179 limitations - Alabama depreciation.
Qualifying spouse for Military Spouses Residency Relief Act
For nonresident returns, if you enter
X
, UltraTax CS subtracts the taxpayer or spouse W2 wages with a wage code of 2 (military) from Alabama sources, other income on Form 40NR, Page 2.
Wages of qualifying spouse (Force)
For nonresident returns, use this field to override the system calculated subtraction on Form 40 NR, Page 2, Alabama sources, other income.
