Overview

Information transfers to this screen from the federal 1099R Screen (Retirement folder). Use this screen to enter total sources amounts of taxable IRA distributions or taxable pensions and annuities under California law. UltraTax uses the information on this screen to calculate adjustments on Schedule CA (540) or Schedule CA(540NR) attributable to differences between federal law and California law. You may also force the adjustment amounts for Schedule CA(540) or Schedule CA(540NR) via the
IRA distribution
and
Pension and annuities
fields on the CAAdj Screen. This screen may also be used for Schedule G-1 and Form 3805P.
Part-year Resident:
For pension and annuity income, UltraTax CS reports the taxable amount for California sources on Schedule CA(540NR) when
CA
is entered in the
State
field. The California sources amount reported on Schedule CA(540NR) defaults to the total sources amount under California law. Use the
Pensions and annuities (Force)
field on the CAAdj Screen to change the amount of taxable pensions and annuities from California sources to report on Schedule CA(540NR).
UltraTax CS does not calculate taxable IRA distributions from California sources for part-year residents. Use the
IRA distribution
field on the CAAdj Screen to enter taxable IRA distributions from California sources to report on Schedule CA(540NR).
Nonresident:
UltraTax CS does not calculate taxable IRA distributions or taxable pensions and annuities from California sources for nonresidents. Use the
IRA distribution
and
Pensions and annuities
fields on the CAAdj Screen to enter taxable IRA distributions and taxable pensions and annuities from California sources to report on Schedule CA(540NR).

Form 1099R Facsimile

State use
The treatment of retirement income in California is dependent on the state use code entered in the federal 1099 Screen. The code you enter in the federal 1099 Screen automatically transfers to this field. Enter
33
to identify sick pay not taxable to California.
note
  • Leaving the
    State use
field blank is the default. However, it is not considered a state use code.
  • Use code
    33
    ,
    Nontaxable sick pay
, for sick pay benefits under the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act. Use code
    33
to exclude non-IRA income reported on Form 1099-R from total sources income and California sources income.
