Prepare an extension
Use the
GAExt
screen in the Payments folder to prepare the Form 303, Extension Request, and Form 560, Extension Payment voucher. Georgia waives certain penalties if you file an extension request by the original due date of the return and meet certain other criteria.Georgia doesn't waive the fail to pay penalty unless the taxpayer has paid all tax by the original due date. Therefore, the purpose of filing federal Form 4868 or Form 303 extension request by the original due date is to waive the Georgia fail to file penalty on any tax still due as of the original due date. Form 560 is the voucher intended to accompany any extension payment.

Details on Forms 303 and 560 and the late penalty criteria
- Georgia also accepts the federal Form 4868 as the extension request.
- The extension payment is intended accompany the Form 560 voucher. As Form 560 is solely a payment voucher, Georgia asks that you don't submit the voucher without a payment.
- The Georgia Department of Revenue doesn't support electronic filing of Form 303 or Form 560 via 3rd-party software such as UltraTax CS.
- The Georgia Department of Finance & Administration gives taxpayers a means to make payments online or via telephone.
Payments and filing criteria
Taxpayers who don't pay all of their income tax by the original return due date are typically subject to a late penalty. However, the Georgia Department of Revenue waives the fail to file penalty on the unpaid balance of tax that's April 15, 2024 if the taxpayer meets all of the following criteria:
- Taxpayer files an extension request via federal Form 4868 or Georgia Form 303 by April 15, 2024.
- Taxpayer files Form GA500 by October 15, 2024.
- Taxpayer files the remainder of the tax by October 15, 2024.
