Use this screen to complete the Hawaii Other State and Foreign Tax Credit Worksheet.

Other States and Foreign Countries Tax and Income

Use this screen to complete the Hawaii Other State and Foreign Tax Credit Worksheet. If you are processing a multiple-state return, process the nonresident state(s) first, followed by the resident state. UltraTax/1040-HI transfers necessary information from the nonresident return(s) to your resident return to complete the credit for taxes paid to other states and/or foreign countries. If the taxpayer / spouse is a part-year resident of Hawaii and you are processing a multiple-state return, UltraTax/1040-HI does
not
 transfer information from the other part-year returns. Use the
Force
 column to generate the credit for part-year residents.
State postal code and name
If you are using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-HI automatically completes the
State postal code and name
 fields for the resident return. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a nonresident return, enter the state postal code, and UltraTax/1040-HI completes the field.
Tax paid to other state
If you are using UltraTax CS to complete a nonresident return, UltraTax/1040-HI automatically completes the
Total out-of-state income
 field for the resident state return. Use the
Force
 column to enter the total out-of-state income amount if it is different from the calculated amount. If you are not using UltraTax CS to file a return for which you would like to claim this credit, enter the taxable income from that state’s return in the
Force
 field.
Total out-of-state income
Enter the amount of out-of-state income,
including capital gains
. Do not include any income that is exempt in Hawaii, such as employer-funded pensions.
Long-term capital gains from sources outside Hawaii
Enter the amount of long-term capital gains from sources outside the State of Hawaii.
Total tax paid to foreign countries / … / Foreign tax credit from prior years
Enter the amounts pertaining to foreign country taxes paid for which Hawaii filers are eligible. Amounts entered in this field are reported on the Hawaii Other State and Foreign Tax Credit Worksheet.
