Overview

Use this screen to enter adjustments to the federal AGI. UltraTax CS uses the information in this section to partially complete the sections for income on Form IL-1040, Page 1. Interest and dividend income is entered in the federal B&D, SDE, K1, and K1T Screens .These screens may be accessed by using the links provided in the ILAdj Screen. Interest and dividend data entered in the statement dialogs in these federal screens is utilized in the calculation of state income and adjustments. In those interest and dividend statement dialogs, you may indicate if data should be applied only to the federal or only to the state return. In addition, use of the state postal code and In-State Source % indicates which state should react to the data entered in the federal statement dialogs.
  • Enter
    F
    in the
    F/S
field to indicate that the item is for the federal return only.
  • Enter
    S
    in the
    F/S
    field and a non-
    IL
    postal code in the
    State
field to indicate that the item only transfers to the state specified and is ignored for federal purposes.
For Illinois source interest and dividends reportable on part-year and nonresident Illinois returns, you must enter
IL
in the
State
field. Further, for interest and dividends reportable as Illinois source for nonresident Illinois returns, you must also enter a percentage in the
In-state Source %
field.
  • Enter interest income in the statement dialog attached to the
    Interest income
field and enter the dividend income in the statement dialog attached to the
    Dividend income
field. In the interest or dividend income statement dialogs enter the payer name, tax exempt amount, state use code (15 thru 33 and 36 thru 44), in-state muni %, and the postal code. UltraTax CS calculates the allowable interest or dividend subtraction and these amounts print on Schedule M, Page 2, line 32 or 33.

Additions to Income

Other additions
Enter other additions to income in this statement dialog. The amounts print on Form IL-1040, Schedule M, Page 1. When you enter other additions, choose a code that represents the addition; UltraTax CS places that amount on the appropriate line number. If no code is chosen for an item, UltraTax CS places the amount on the Other Income line of Schedule M.
Distributive share from Schedule K-1 (Force)
For the additions amount, UltraTax CS accumulates all of the addition fields found on the K-1-P and K-1-T Worksheets.
Federal tax-exempt income as included on federal Form 8814
Enter the amount of the tax-exempt income from federal Form 8814, line 1b, that is attributable to Illinois. When preparing part year returns, UltraTax CS includes this amount as an addback on the Schedule M worksheet, line 1.
Student-Assistance contribution credit (Force)
UltraTax/1040-IL automatically uses the resident credit amount for non-resident returns. Enter an amount in this field to override the calculated amount.

Subtractions from Income

UltraTax CS uses the information in this section to partially complete the sections for subtractions on Form IL-1040, Page 1 and Schedule NR, Page 2.
Social Security and retirement income (Force)
UltraTax/1040-IL automatically calculates this subtraction based on information entered in the federal 1099 Screen for taxable pensions, taxable IRA distributions, and taxable Social Security benefits reported on federal Form 1040. Use this field only to enter an amount different from the calculated amount. Taxable pensions entered in the federal 1099 Screen identified with Illinois state use code
72
is not included in the calculation of this subtraction.
Military pay (Force)
UltraTax CS totals all wages indicated as military and National Guard wages in the federal W2 Screen and transfers the amount to the
Military pay
field on Schedule M
only
if you left the
Postal Code
field blank or specified
IL
when you enter wages information at the federal level. For part-year and nonresidents, only the W2s Screen coded with
IL
in the
Postal Code
field are printed in the Other subtractions field on Schedule NR, Page 2.
UltraTax CS assumes that the wages you entered in the W2 Screen were earned while the taxpayer was a resident of Illinois. If this is not the case, enter a force amount in this field.
Other subtractions
Enter other subtractions to income in this statement dialog. The amounts print on Form IL-1040, Schedule M. When you enter other subtractions, choose a code that represents the subtraction; UltraTax CS places that amount on the appropriate line number. If no code is chosen for an item, UltraTax CS does not place that amount on Schedule M.
The Bright Start College Savings Pool, College Illinois Prepaid Tuition, and Bright Directions tuition programs are automatically calculated by UltraTax CS based on data entry in the federal 1099Q Screen. Use the
State Use
field to specify which tuition program is being entered. UltraTax CS limits the combined contributions based on the filing status of the Illinois tax return.
If filing electronically, the State of Illinois does
not
accept an entry on Schedule M, line 23 and the account number is required for the Bright Start College Savings Pool, College Illinois Prepaid Tuition, and Bright Directions tuition programs.
Distributive share from Schedule K-1 (Force)
For the subtractions amount, UltraTax CS accumulates all of the subtraction fields found on the K-1-P and K-1-T Worksheets, except for the Enterprise zone or River edge redevelopment zone and High impact business dividend subtractions. The Enterprise zone and High impact business dividend amounts are accumulated separately on the K-1-P and K-1-T Worksheets and show up on Schedule 1299-C, in their respective fields.
Recovery of items previously deducted (Force)
For resident returns only, UltraTax CS only calculates the out of state taxable refund amount. If any other subtractions apply, use these fields to enter an amount different from the calculated amount.
US Obs or Illinois muni interest included on federal Form 8814 (Force)
Enter the amount of U.S. obligations, Illinois municipal interest, and non-U.S. government bonds as reported on federal Form 8814; that would be allowed as a subtraction on Schedule M, lines 22, 34, or 35 if you had received them rather than your child. Enter the amount in this field only if your child’s income is included on your Form IL-1040.
