Overview

Use this screen to complete Forms 502X and 505X. If information transferred from UltraTax/1040 doesn't require additional data or coding, UltraTax/1040-MD only shows it on the form and not on the input screen.

General Information

UltraTax CS uses information in this section to complete various questions on Form 502X. Enter data in the
Filing status, as originally reported
field only if it's different from the amended data.
Transfer original information
Select this field to enter the original data (as of the last time the return was printed) in the amount fields. If you're also preparing the amended federal return, select this field before printing.
Paid with original return, plus additional payments
Enter the amount of tax paid, excluding interest and penalty, with the original return, plus any additional amount paid after the return was filed.
Overpayment, if any, as shown on original or as previously adjusted
Enter the amount of overpayment, if any, as shown on the original return or as previously adjusted.
Interest and penalty charges on tax due
Enter the amount of interest to be paid on any balance of tax due. The interest is due from the date the return was originally due to be filed until the date the tax is paid. The annual interest rate has been 13 percent since January 1, 1993. Attach a copy of a recalculated Form 502UP for the amended return.
Filing status, as originally reported
If there was a change in filing status, enter the applicable code to indicate the status reported on the original tax return.
Filing amended return to carry back or carry forward a net operating loss
If you're filing an amended return with a federal net operating loss, attach copies of federal Form 1045 or 1040X, whichever was used for federal purposes, and a copy of the federal income tax return for the year of the loss. Also include Schedules A and B of Form 1045 or the equivalent worksheets used to develop the federal net operating loss and show the amounts used on the federal return in the carryback or carryforward years. Refer to Maryland Income Tax Administrative Release Nos. 18 and 38 for more information.
Nonresident if original or previously filed return was as resident or part-year resident

if you're amending Form 502, which is used for residents and part-year residents, but Form 505 should have previously been filed because the client is actually a nonresident of Maryland. If Form 502 was incorrectly used to file the Maryland return, you need to use Form 502X to amend the Form 502 filing. This doesn't apply to military nonresidents who are married to Maryland resident nonmilitary spouses.
Explanation of changes
Use the statement window to enter explanations of changes to income, deductions, and credits. List each Maryland form with specific line numbers and amounts that changed. This information is prints on Form 502X, Page 2, Part III.
