IT-214 Real Property Tax Credit

UltraTax CS uses the information in this section to complete Form IT-214 eligibility information and the schedule of household members. Note that the taxpayer and spouse dates of birth (entered in the federal 1040 screen) are necessary for the calculation of Form IT-214. Fields in this screen are available to full year New York State residents only.

question on Form IT-214. This field is required. UltraTax CS doesn't calculate the credit if this field is blank. Note that this field serves a dual purpose for Form IT-214. If you have entered
X
in this field, the residence occupied is considered qualified, thus, Form IT-214, Question 3,
Did you own real property with a current market value of more than $85,000
and Question 5,
Did you reside in public housing or other completely exempted property
are both automatically answered
No
. Don't enter
X
in this field if any 1 of the 3 conditions disqualifies the taxpayer from claiming the credit. UltraTax CS verifies that the taxpayer isn't a dependent of another based upon data entered in the federal 1040 screen. Note that a property tax credit may not be claimed on a deceased taxpayer's return, therefore, UltraTax CS also checks the
Taxpayer: Date of death
field in the federal 1040 screen.

Schedule of household members
Names and Social Security numbers of household members in this statement window transfer from the
Dependents
statement window in the federal 1040 screen. If the taxpayer and spouse dates of birth are entered in the federal 1040 screen, the taxpayer's name (and spouse's name if joint return) is (are) added automatically. UltraTax CS requires additional statement window information as follows:
  • Filing IT-214
: If more than 1 household member is filing Form IT-214, enter
    X
in the Filing IT-214 column of the statement window for each member filing Form IT-214. If marked, the Social Security number is entered on Form IT-214, line 7 for filers who are also age 65 or older.
  • Age 65 or Over
    : An
    X
, determined by the Date of Birth column entry, appears in this column for any household member age 65 or older at year-end. UltraTax CS uses this information in conjunction with the Filing IT-214 column to complete line 7.
