Ohio Cities credit for taxes paid to other cities
The credit for taxes paid to other cities only calculates for resident returns when city tax is calculating on an attached nonresident city return. UltraTax CS calculates the credit by multiplying the income taxed by both cities by the lesser of the nonresident tax rate or the resident city’s credit limit and multiplies that amount by the resident city tax credit percentage. The credit is not based on withholding.
For the resident credit to calculate, you must include all applicable city returns in the
Client Properties
from the File menu. Then enter a City code
in the appropriate Income screens for each city with earnings.note
- If the income was taxed by a municipality outside Ohio, the credit for taxes paid to other cities may not calculate automatically. If the resident return is CCA or RITA, enter the Non-Ohio municipality tax rates on theOhio Cities Genscreen in the General folder. If the resident return is neither CCA nor RITA, adjust the credit for tax paid to other cities on the AKR, CIN, COL, GEN, or TOL screen, or override forms as needed.
- If you don't want to print a specific nonresident city return, but still calculate the credit, enter1in theSuppress or force return printingfield at the end of each specific city screen.
