Overview

Use this screen to complete the generic city return. The fieldview attached to
City code
indicates the generic cities for which activities were coded to.

Return Information

Use this section to enter general information to complete the generic city return, Page 1.
City code and name
Select the code from the dropdown list. If a city isn't listed, it's either a non-generic city, or there's neither income nor residence tax in that city. Review diagnostic messages to determine if another return type is needed.
Account number
Enter the city-assigned, primary taxpayer's account number.
Residence owned by taxpayer
Nonresidents may leave this blank. When filing a resident return, the taxpayer has the option to provide information about home ownership. If the taxpayer owns the residence, select

for Yes. If the taxpayer doesn't own the residence, select
2
for No. If renting, provide the name and address of the owner.
Explanation of no taxable income expected in
Enter an explanation in the statement window if the taxpayer is filing a final return or has another reason to expect no taxable income.
Amended return
Mark this field to file an amended city return.
General footnote
Enter a footnote in the statement window. This is a schedule that may be printed and attached to the return for informational purposes. The general footnote appears as a separate item in each collation.

Income and Adjustments

Use this section to adjust taxable income. UltraTax CS uses this information to complete the generic city return's Worksheets A, B, and C.
Total income (Force)
Use this field to suppress calculation of the page 2 worksheets and force a value for total income on the return. Local withholding and credits for local taxes paid don't calculate on the return since those amounts are determined on the page 2 worksheets.
Net operating loss carryforward
This statement is used to complete the Generic Net Operating Loss Worksheet. Enter the code of the city that's recognizing the loss, the year of loss and the amount of unused net operating loss from a previous year as a positive amount. The Worksheet calculates the amount of loss carryforward to be used against the current year income. Use the
Force
field to use a smaller amount. Unused losses are carried forward to the extent enabled by the city. The number of years for which a net operating loss can be carried forward from 2016 and earlier can be modified in

Other additions/deductions
Use these statements to adjust net taxable income for exceptional reasons. Enter the description and amount of each adjustment. These adjustments appear on Worksheet C, and the total adjustment appears on Part A Line 4 of the tax return.

Credits

Use this section to adjust the calculated credit for tax paid to other cities.
Credit for tax paid to other cities
Enter any adjustment to calculated credit for taxes paid other cities in the statement window. Enter the city name and amount of credit for earned income taxes paid to other cities. This field applies only to residents. Amounts entered in this field are added to the calculated amounts.

Penalties and Interest

Use this section to enter amounts for late filing penalties and interest. Penalties and interest aren't calculated automatically on a city return.

Print Options

Use this section to suppress or force printing of the return on a client-by-client basis and to force a due date different from the one calculated by UltraTax CS.
