Prepare Form REV-276 extension
Use the
PAExt
screen in the Payments
folder to generate the Pennsylvania Form REV-276 extension.Form REV-276 payment, filing, and late penalty
- The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue waives certain penalties if you file an extension request by the original due date of April 15, 2024, and meet certain other criteria.
- Pennsylvania also accepts federal Form 4868 as the extension request.
- The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue supports electronic funds withdrawal of the extension payment.
- The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue also lets taxpayers make payments online or via telephone.
Pennsylvania has a fail to pay penalty and a fail to file penalty.
- To avoid a fail to pay penalty, the taxpayer needs to pay 100 percent of the tax liability by the original due date, April 15, 2024. Filing federal Form 4868 or Form REV-276 without payment doesn't affect the calculation of the fail to pay penalty.
- To avoid a fail to file penalty, the taxpayer needs to file federal Form 4868 or Form REV-276 by the original due date, April 15, 2024, then pay 100 percent of the tax liability by the extended due date, October 15, 2024.
- To make an extra payment by the April 15, 2024 due date, use Pennsylvania Form REV-276.
Prepare Form REV-276
Use the PAExt screen to complete Form REV-276. You can either have UltraTax CS calculate the payment amount, or manually force it.
- To have UltraTax CS calculate the amount based on current data entered:
- EnterXin theCalculate Extensionfield on the PAExt screen.
- SelectSetup,1040 Individual, theFederaltab, thenExtensionsto select the method for calculating the extension amount.noteSelecting multiple clients for electronic filing viaFile,Print Extensionscauses UltraTax CS to mark theCalculate Extensionfield if you don't mark theCreate an extension without total tax liability amountscheckbox.
- To force the extension payment amount: Enter an amount in theBalance due on extension (Force)field on the PAExt screen.
- To force a 0 amount on Form REV-276: Enter0in theBalance due on extension (Force)field on the PAExt screen.
Print the extension
When you finish entering data on the PAExt screen, select
File
, then Print Extensions
to print Form REV-276.Prepare the return after filing an extension payment
Make sure you do the following when preparing an extended return:
- Amount actually paid with extension: Enter the amount on the PAExt screen in theExtension payment actually made; reportable on main returnfield. UltraTax CS populates this field when you create the extension. Change the data entry for this amount if the taxpayer paid a different amount.
- Date return filed: Enter theDate return filedon the PAPen screen. If the date exceeds the original due date, UltraTax CS calculates a late penalty on the unpaid balance due.
- Attach the federal or state extension: UltraTax CS doesn't automatically attach a copy of federal Form 4868 to Form PA-40 when you selectFile, thenPrint Extensionsto print the federal extension. When filing on paper, include a copy of the federal extension Form 4868 with Form PA-40. Also, if you file Form REV-276, you don't need to attach a copy of the extension to Form PA-40.
