Use this screen to complete Schedule HI-144.

Household Members and Income

Use this section to complete the income section of Form HI-144 and the Application for Lifeline Telephone Service Credit. Enter both taxable and nontaxable amounts. Note that amounts entered in the
Others
column are applicable to Form HI-144 only and are not included in calculating income for the Application for Lifeline Telephone Service Credit.
Name and SSN of others with income in household
Enter the names and Social Security numbers of any others in the household with income in the statement window.
Cash public assistance or welfare
Enter the amount of cash public assistance or welfare received by the taxpayer, spouse, or others.
Social security or veteran's benefits/Farm, partnership, S corporation income
UltraTax CS completes the
Claimant
and
Spouse
columns of household income on Form HI-144 according to your entries in UltraTax/1040. On a joint return, complete the TSJ codes in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate household income items between the taxpayer and the spouse. Make entries in these fields if you want to adjust the calculated taxpayer and spouse amounts, or if you want to enter income amounts for other persons in the household.
Child support and cash gifts
Taxpayer and spouse payroll taxes and SE tax adjustment are calculated automatically on Form HI-144 according to your entries in the W2 federal screen and in screens associated with self-employment income, such as the C, F, and K1 screens. On a joint return, complete the TSJ codes where applicable in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate this adjustment between the taxpayer and the spouse. Make entries in these fields if you want to adjust the calculated taxpayer and spouse amounts or if you want to enter an amount for other persons in the household.
Pensions and annuities
Nontaxable distributions from these sources are not reported as household income. Federal pension and annuity benefits, taxable and nontaxable, are reported as household income in the year received. UltraTax CS automatically completes the Claimant and Spouse columns of household income on Form HI-144 according to your entries in UltraTax/1040. On a joint return, complete the TSJ codes where applicable in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate household income items between the taxpayer and the spouse. Make entries in these fields if you want to adjust the calculated taxpayer and spouse amounts, or if you want to enter income amounts for other persons in the household.
Other gains from Form 4797
Entries in these fields display on line M, Other income on the HI-144. UltraTax CS automatically completes the Claimant and Spouse columns of household income on Form HI-144 according to your entries in UltraTax/1040. On a joint return, complete the TSJ codes in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate household income items between the taxpayer and the spouse. Make entries in these fields if you want to adjust the calculated taxpayer and spouse amounts, or if you want to enter income amounts for other persons in the household.
Other income
Taxpayer and spouse Other income items transfer from UltraTax/1040 to the statement window attached to this field. On a joint return, complete the TSJ codes in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate household income items between the taxpayer and the spouse. If any Vermont data differs from the federal data, delete the data or enter the state data. The new data displays in black and subsequent federal to state transfers don’t replace this data. You may also enter new items in this statement window, in addition to those that transfer from UltraTax/1040.

Adjustments to Income

Use this section to complete adjustments to household income on Form HI-144. Note that the
Others
column is only applicable to Form HI-144, and not to the Application for Lifeline Telephone Service Credit.
Business expenses for reservists / Alimony paid / Tuition and fees
UltraTax CS automatically completes the Claimant and Spouse columns of Household income, federal adjustments on Form HI-144 according to your entries in UltraTax/1040. On a joint return, you should complete the TSJ codes where applicable in the federal input screens so UltraTax CS can allocate federal adjustments between the taxpayer and the spouse. Make entries in these fields to adjust the calculated taxpayer and spouse amounts or if you want to enter a federal adjustment amount for other persons in the household.
Child support paid
Enter the recipient's name, Social Security number, and amount of child support paid in the statement window.
